Easy e was gay
Eric Marcus: What I think I experience and people who listen to the podcast experience is a version of time travel. I said yes to the project and the central part of doing that project was doing oral histories, interviews. However, this is an incorrect assumption. [3]. Eric Lynn Wright (September 7, [1] – March 26, ), known professionally as Eazy-E, was an American rapper who propelled West Coast rap and gangsta rap by leading the group N.W.A and its label, Ruthless Records.
Eric Marcus: Well, there are two stories here. And he liked the way I did a dialogue. Rumors concerning Eazy-E’s sexual orientation, particularly the question “Was Eazy-E Gay,” started circulating during his lifetime. So I thought someday someone, a scholar, somebody might wanna do an audio documentary or just use the archive for their research.
Jordan then revealed he had two of Eazy-E’s sexual partners as patients (one current) who told him the late rapper transmitted the disease to them: “They were infected they got infected from. One is how I came to do the interviews in the first place, which was thankfully not because I was fired.
Jay VO: Many years later, in the midst of a career change, Eric came back to his oral history archives and decided to create a podcast that would become celebrated as a profound deep dive into all corners of LGBTQ history. Eric Marcus: I have to explain that there was no such thing as the internet in It was never, it was never a cohesive movement.
And I had to figure out at age 55, what to do next. Today, Eric is a celebrated author, journalist, and podcast host. Was Eazy E Gay? No, Eazy E wasn’t gay. The “thing” Eazy-E spoke of was AIDS. Most people assume that the rapper was gay because he died from an AIDS-induced illness.
Simone Biles: I say put mental health first because…. We are many communities. Eric Marcus: We think Rosa parks refuse to go to the back of the bus. Eric Marcus: It was very dangerous and remains dangerous to this day in many places for people to be out about who they are.
The second story is how the podcast came about, which was because I was fired. It was even called a "gay man's disease.". Eric Marcus: A friend called and asked if I would write this oral history of the movement. We get to go back in time and hear these people speak, many of whom are long gone, about their experiences in the 20th century.
So I was commissioned in to write an oral history of what was then called the Gay and Lesbian Civil Rights Movement. Since the death of Eazy-E back in , there have been multiple conspiracies surrounding what really caused it. Or Stonewall happened and we think that everything came out of that, but the story is almost always more complicated than that.
In the late s, Eric Marcus decided to leave his job at CBS and take a leap of faith to pursue a project that required creating an oral history of the gay and lesbian civil rights movement. Because, at the time Eazy-E developed AIDS, it was associated almost entirely with homosexuals.
The rapper was diagnosed with AIDS and through complications of the virus. The year-old rapper, whose real name was Eric Wright, said that he wasn’t gay and that he didn’t know how he caught the HIV virus that causes AIDS. Jay Ruderman: So you had mentioned that you started these into interviews after getting fired.
Eazy-E is often referred to as the "Godfather of Gangsta Rap". HIV and AIDS can be transmitted through heterosexual or homosexual relations. And the editor who was also a friend called and asked if I would write this oral history of the movement. Jay VO: In each episode, we bring you in depth and intimate conversations about activism, courage, and change.
And, I had given my entire audio archive and my video archive to the New York public library in , with an agreement that they digitized my entire collection, which they did so long story short, I started, uh, working on an education project with an organization called History Unerased that developed LGBTQ-inclusive American history resources.
Some speculated based on his appearance and behavior if he may have been gay or bisexual, drawing on lyrics in his songs and overall demeanor. Eazy-E did not want people to assume he was homosexual because that would be a shame to him and his family. It’s worth noting that neither the rapper nor his family has ever discussed his sexuality in.
Leonardo DiCaprio: I stand before you, not as an expert, but as a concerned citizen. The result would become first one, then two editions of the book Making Gay History.
